Malibu Boats (@MalibuBoats) Family member and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter Shane Carwin (@ShaneCarwin) lost to Brock Lesnar last night in the UFC 116 Heavyweight Title Fight. But Malibu Boats is with Shane win or lose. Just like Team Malibu water sports athletes, Malibu Boats chose Shane based on much more than his ability to win. We are affiliated with Team Carwin (#TeamCarwin) because of Shane's integrity and commitment. He personifies the "Malibu Difference." His amazing performance as a fighter is a bonus. The blog post published by Shane on Shane-Carwin.com yesterday before the fight just proves heart and character can be just as powerful as victory.

Whatever happens tonight this feels right and I know it is in Gods hands now. My coaches and training partners have given me everything they could for this. The sacrifices have been made, the time put in and now it is time to put it all together.
This week has been a whirlwind I have found myself on TV shows I normally watch, endorsing products I usually drink, and being treated like a super star. The entire casino and strip is loaded with ads for UFC 116 it is amazing. The hotel room is larger then my first couple of homes and they even have poker tables with Brock and me on them. There is no doubt in my mind I a living the American Dream.
My Mom always told us if we work hard and do our best to earn what we want we will be blessed with more than we would ever need. As I look at my life I know that is true. I have an amazing family and I am married to an wonderful woman who is helping me raise my son and our daughter. My Mom, brothers and I are all enjoying the fruits of our labors. If you have a dream you need to be chasing it. You can make anything happen if you put in the effort and hard work.
Tonight it is not about winning a belt or being ranked number one in the Heavy Weight Division. Tonight is about two super talented big guys who have put a life time of work into being the very best they can be. Tonight all the hard work and sacrifices comes down to 25 minutes of war.
I am as ready as I have ever been. I feel ten years younger, I feel faster and stronger than I have ever been for a fight. I was maybe 80% healthy for 111 and usually I limp into the fights with some sort of injury. This is the best my shape my mind and body have been in on fight day.
I am honored that Lesnar would give me the chance. It takes a real man to face the very best after a long lay off. Brock doesn’t seem to take any short cuts and I expect to see the very best Brock Lesnar ever tonight. He is a tough fight for anyone and holds the one thing that all of us fighters int he division are hunting for, the UFC strap.
Whatever happens tonight the winner will be faced with one of the most stacked Heavyweight Divisions ever and absolute beast like Cain, Dos Santos, etc are working hard or waiting for their shot. It is an exciting time to be a part of the UFC heavyweight Division.
I want to thank my Coaches, training partners, manager, and sponsors for everything you do for me. None of this would be possible without your support.

Biggest #UFC Fight Ever Announced
The Examiner.com posted this story yesterday by John Livingston on the impending battle.
As expected, an Ultimate Fighting Championship World Heavyweight Title match has been officially announced for UFC 116 Lesnar vs. Carwin between current heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar and interim heavyweight title holder Shane Carwin on July 3 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
This fight was originally schedule for Nov. 9, 2009 for UFC 106, and then again for January’s UFC 108 card before Lesnar was sidelined–and eventually hospitalized– with an extreme case of diverticulitis.
While waiting for his inevitable title match with Lesnar (4-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC), Carwin (12-0, 4-0) went out and earned himself an interim title in the heavyweight division via a first round knockout victory against Frank Mir (13-5).
Carwin took time to speak with me once before the Mir fight and not only did he take time to discus the Katelyn Brand fundraiser for this May 22 at Max Muscle Loveland, but he also took time out of his busy schedule to talk with me after the Mir fight about his training preparations for Lesnar.
JOHN LIVINGSTON EXCLUSIVE 1 on 1 INTERVIEW WITH UFC INTERIM HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION SHANE CARWIN ON APRIL 14, 2010
John Livingston After defeating Mir I saw that you were right back in Colorado and in the gym. What is your primary focus in training currently? Are you beginning to prepare specifically for Lesnar?
Shane Carwin Yes I am starting my training back up but I have not kicked off the “official” training camp for Brock. I am just getting back into the groove and going over with my coaches things that we can fix and improve.
JL Can you just talk about how frantic the media requests have been for you and how busy you have been since UFC 111?
SC It was pretty intense for a bit but my management company is the absolute best at what they do and they filter out a lot of request. In the future you are going to see me limit press coverage and just communicate direct with my fans on my website.
JL Is the best part of holding the interim title that you know you officially finally have your shot at Lesnar?
SC Yeah, I felt like I earned my title shot before only to have an illness derail the plans. Then I had to fight a World class fighter in Frank to keep my place in line. So now I know for sure I am the number one contender for the UFC Heavyweight Title.
JL Can you describe what it was like your first week back in Colorado after your UFC 111 win against Mir? Are you getting stopped all over town for pictures etc?
SC I was back at work (the next) Monday, but yeah more people have been aware of me. It is fine I love my fans so it does not bother me if they come up and say hi.
JL What will your mind set be during your full training camp for Lesnar; are you going to enjoy the weeks leading up to July 3 or will it be intense and business like?
SC Yes I love training, and that is really what makes this work for me. I love MMA and training for fights. The competition day is just the carrot at the end of the stick.
The key thing is having an amazing team of supporters. From the fans, coaches and down to the Sponsors. Coach Bowling, Coach Trevor Wittman, Coach Amal Easton and so many others help me get to where I am now. Companies like Malibu Boats, MTX Audio, Max Muscle, Good4u Beverages, PerformanceMMA.com and Blowoutcards.com really help me complete the journey.
Here is what the UFC 116 card looks like so far; many Colorado fighters other than Carwin will be featured including middleweight contender Nate Marquardt and TUF 11 finalist Brendan Schaub.

Shane tweeted this after his time at Tommy's. "I was ready to cry. Dream come true."
Check out photos of Shane in his new boat on the Malibu Boats Flickr page.

What Malibu Boats and Tommy's Slalom's has done is helped me reach my goals and provide a rewarding escape for my family and friends. After big wins you always hear the athlete saying they are going to Disneyland, for me I am going boating on my Wakesetter VLX."

Malibu Family's New MMA Addition Dominates
As the introductions started and the commentator chatter turned to a steady buzz the favorite was made clear. Mir had receive more air time leading up to the fight coupled with a more dramatic entrance. Add this to what seemed to be the confidence of most analysts and it seemed as though Mir had the fight all but won. Carwin however, did not get this memo. He walked out confident and took his place in front of his sponsor banner, which included Malibu Boats and Malibu Dealer Tommy's Slalom Shop, in Octagon waiting for the Mir show to end and the big show to be begin.
Carwin was introduced to the roar of Team Carwin (#TeamCarwin) while he paced with the Malibu Boats logo in the background. The rest of the Malibu Boats family cheered from a pay-per-view vantage points.
Carwin continued to show the past champ respect until the battle began. Then he morphed into the "Beast" that Team Carwin knows as their favorite fighter. And this guy is the reason #TeamCarwin is still one of the main trending MMA topics on Twitter this morning.
The two men started the first round measuring each other and tangling against the cage. Carwin passed his infamous 1:40 mark and did not turn to dust. They fought on and at 3:30 Carwin turned on the power that he is known for pummeling Mir with 22 unanswered shots to the head and shoulders. The battle was called at 3:48. Carwin was declared the winner by knockout.
Carwin's confidence was humbled as he took the mic after the fight and admitted he was speechless. It had been a year since he stepped into the Octagon. All of that preparation, hard work along with the "on again off again" fight dates had made the road long. But as good as this victory felt for Shane, he is the first to say it is only a short stop on the road to Brock Lesnar. His goal of toppling the UFC Heavyweight Champion has never changed. He is focused on that fight now and looking to drop the "Interim" from his title in early July against Lesnar.
Carwin said, "I am honored to represent Malibu Boats in and out of the Octagon. What Malibu Boats and Tommy's Slalom's has done is helped me reach my goals and provide a rewarding escape for my family and friends. After big wins you always hear the athlete saying they are going to Disneyland, for me I am going boating on my Wakesetter VLX."
Malibu Boats is so proud of you Shane! Your abilities in cage are only matched by your integrity and your drive. Keep pushing limits and the next belt will be yours. Congratulations Shane Carwin!

UFC 111
Wearing the Malibu Boats name, Carwin will enter the Octagon with Frank Mir on March 27th in Newark, New Jersey to decide the Interim Heavyweight Title at UFC 111. Carwin will draw on his 11 and 0 MMA career experience to defeat Mir, a 2-time UFC Heavyweight Champion. Success in that arena will pit Carwin against the UFC’s only other fighter to wear 4XL gloves, current UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar.
When asked why he chose Malibu Boats, Carwin responded with this statement, “My family and I love being on the lake and spending time together. We all ski, wakeboard and just enjoy the water. When looking for a boat I wanted a brand that worked as hard as I do to be the best. Malibu is not only the best performing boat they are the only boats good enough for my family and me.”
Carwin’s record is extremely impressive, but not the only reason Malibu is so excited about this new relationship. Just like the other talented individuals that make-up the Malibu Boats Family, Carwin is as strong on character and determination as he is fierce in the Octagon.
Paul Singer, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Malibu Boats, had this to say about the addition of Carwin to the Malibu Crew. "Shane has a level of dedication that is impressive whether it revolves around his family, his sport or his fans so he made an immediate impression on us in the cage and out. Singer continued, "The fact that he has dreamed of owning a Malibu boat and wanted to bring us in the Octagon was icing on the cake. Both vessels of extreme performance, strength and precision, Shane and his new Wakesetter VLX create a strong team."
Carwin fulfilled his mother’s goal for he and his brother, two times over, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and a second degree in Environmental Technology. Carwin was also National Runner-Up Heavyweight in NCAA Division II Wrestling two years running and NCAA II Wrestling Heavyweight National Champion in 1999. In his spare time he managed to become a two-time All-American in football. He was focused on family and driven then. He remains that way today.
Carwin works as an Engineer as he pursues his Mixed Martial Arts career with UFC, but his devotion still lies with family. Carwin’s wife Lani, his son Kamden and their new baby girl Alexia remain the priorities in his life. They are all looking forward to a fun summer in their 2010 Wakesetter VLX from Tommy’s Slalom Shop in Denver, Colorado. Malibu Boats will keep you updated on Carwin and his family as they wakeboard and have great times in their Malibu boat this summer.
